Branding Talent - Most appreciated

Enter your seed idea, win £1000 idea development money, and a potential commercial commission with Shop Direct!

Small creative companies and freelancers from across the digital media industries were invited to enter seed ideas of 150 words responding to Shop Direct’s call for new ways of connecting with their customers

Judges from Aegis Media, Just-b. Productions and NESTA assessed each entry on technical feasibility, response to the brief, format innovation and entrants’ ability to deliver

We are delighted to announced the five finalists are:

- Steve Tickle, Phillipa's Boudoir is Fashion toGO
- Brian Harvey, Fashion + Music = Success
- James Boardwell, Live
- Kejia Zhu, Fashion Fix
- David Sweeney, My Size

Each will now receive a £1000 grant, attend a development workshop and pitch their finished idea to Shop Direct!

Branding Talent 09 is a project between Aegis, NESTA, Shop Direct and Just-b.

About Branding Talent 09:

Shop Direct is a massive (and massively successful) home shopping organisation that has moved online in a big way over the last few years. They are currently in the process of preparing to launch a new fashion clothing retail brand that will live in both the online and offline worlds

What were we looking for?

New ways of connecting with consumers - predominantly young adult female consumers - and of connecting them with, and involving them in, a genuinely exciting new online/offline fashion retailing experience

This included (but not exclusively):
- applications; platforms; communications ‘products’; social media applications; rich media applications; content vehicles, relevant new functionalities; ‘widgets’

- Usable innovation in the space where digital media, technology, data, personalisation and content can be leveraged in new ways to drive a combination of shopping and connecting online

How did it work?

The best five (as selected by Aegis, Nesta, Shop Direct and Just-b.) were be awarded £1,000 in funding to turn their initial germ of an idea into a presentable concept

They will have one month to develop their idea further, before pitching to Shop Direct

What we needed:

- 150 word seed idea
- Representative image
- A full biography

Ideas will be judged on technical feasibility, response to the brief, format innovation and entrants’ ability to deliver
