Elaine Ferneley is a Professor in the Information Systems, Organisations and Society (ISOS) research centre, Salford Business School, UK. Her chair is in Technological Innovation and she is currently the programme director for Salford’s MBA. Elaine holds an MSc and PhD in Computation from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. She has worked on various UK and European research projects conducting research on the socio-technical implications of advanced ICT utilization within the areas of social network technologies, mobile computing, collaborative working, information systems design and knowledge management.
Her research particularly focuses on how ICTs such as social networking technologies and mobile technologies shape and are shaped by working practices in knowledge intensive organizations within the domains of the emergency services, production environments and publishing companies. Before choosing an academic career Elaine has worked as a systems architect managing large scale system developments for ICI and IBM Australia.
