Julian Hartley
I am a Manchester-based museologist, occasional arts journalist and often project manager.
Recent projects include curating 'Self Identity', an Arts Council funded community art event where participants used the e-fit facial recognition software as a mechanism to engage in conversation around their private, community and national identities.
Engaging community in such reflexivity informs all my work. As a museologist, my motivation is to produce dialogue between museum collections and the communities they serve. I have previously worked for/with the Guardian Media Group, The Whitworth Art Gallery and I have an on-going collaboration with the Centre of Museology at the University of Manchester. .
